Turns out that the end of the line for Zeke’s Food & Spirits in downtown Dowagiac was not the simple overnight decision that was portrayed on the restaurant’s Facebook page Monday night. According to a LoopNet auction listing created last Thursday, January 23rd, 2020, “After 30 years in business, the owner of Zeke’s Restaurant is retiring and offering the business and real estate to interested parties.”
If the owner doesn’t receive an offer to make a turnkey purchase of the business by Valentine’s Day, the restaurant property, liquor license and all contents will be sold separately through an online auction scheduled for Tuesday, March 1oth, 2020 through LastBid Real Estate, a Miedema Company.

The LoopNet listing created last week, tells another story, however, with details of the retirement decision and the turnkey offer of a “fully functioning business, famous for great good and beer club with over 250 bottled beers available and more on tap.”
The sizable restaurant is in an 8,558 square foot building at 109 S. Front Street in Dowagiac’s central business district downtown. The restaurant is being offered at $50,000 until February 14th, at which time — if there are no offers on the table — an online auction will take place on March 10, 2020 beginning at 8am.
The historic two-story building is 120 years old, and has capacity for 284 patrons in the main floor dining areas, large bar area and the upper and lower private dining and event rooms.
