The Berrien County Trial Court is recognizing National Foster Care Month this month, highlighting the ongoing need for foster families in Michigan and in Berrien County.
The court says more than 10,000 children are currently in foster care across the state, including hundreds in Berrien County. The month serves as a time to recognize the resilience of the kids in foster care and the work done by foster parents.
As part of National Foster Care Month, an “Art for a Cause” exhibit featuring artwork created by young people in foster care is currently on display in the Berrien County Trial Court Jury Assembly Room. The theme this year is “Superheroes,” inviting kids up to 18 to depict people they consider heroes in their lives.
The exhibit’s now in its final stop in a regional showcase that previously included the Coloma Library, the Paw Paw Library, and the Van Buren County Courthouse.
Anyone interested in becoming a foster parent should contact the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services office in Berrien County. The number is 269-615-3726.
