Hospitality Industry & Medical Society Respond to End of State Capacity Restrictions & Masks

Following the governor’s announcement that all capacity restrictions in the state of Michigan will end next Tuesday, and face mask requirements will go away, several organizations have issued response statements including the hospitality industry and the medical community.

Michigan Restaurant & Lodging Association President & CEO Justin Winslow, issued the following statement below in response to the governor’s news:

“The hospitality industry received transcendent news today that will finally move it past 463 days of closure, capacity restrictions and elevated regulatory scrutiny that forced more than one in six Michigan restaurants to close their doors for good. The challenges ahead remain daunting for many, but this industry is resilient, adaptive and ready to meet this newfound opportunity head on.

The MRLA will focus its efforts going forward on sensible workforce solutions that benefit employers and employees alike. We also will advocate for the strategic investment of federal dollars to help restore the hospitality industry to its rightful place as one of opportunity and as an ambassador to all that is Pure Michigan.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Pino Colone, MD, President of the Michigan State Medical Society, issued this response to the news:

“State health officials’ decision to lift all remaining COVID-19 capacity requirements and restriction is not only great news for Michigan and it’s residents, but also a testament to the effectiveness of the vaccine. Cases are plummeting and restrictions are being lifted nine days earlier than originally planned for two simple reasons: 1.) The vaccine works, and 2.) People are rolling up their sleeves to get it.”

“With that said, we owe a great deal of gratitude to all the health professionals who have stood on the frontlines administering shots in an effort to keep us safe, and a sincere ‘thank you’ to the millions of Michigan residents who have acted responsibility and gotten vaccinated.”
