It’s not live ammunition: St. Joseph Township Police to engage in training Tuesday at township hall

St. Joseph Township residents shouldn’t be alarmed Tuesday, May 12 if they hear what sounds like gunfire. It’s the St. Joseph Township Police Department doing some training.

St. Joseph Township Police Chief Randy Leng tells us officers will be doing “simmunition” training in one of the garages out back at the township hall. They’ve done this training before and want residents to be advised.

We’ve gotten phone calls with people stating they’ve heard gunshots, so we felt it’s in the best interest of the township residents and everyone else, for that matter, knowing that we’re doing training that will sound like gunfire, but it’s just ammunition training rounds, not live fire,” Leng said.

Leng couldn’t tell us more details about the training itself, but he assures everyone there’s no danger to the public.

The training will be all day, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anyone with questions can contact the St. Joseph Township Hall.
