SJ Baseball Association Registration Underway for Wells Field Play

You might have a tough time finding second base at Wells Field along S. State Street in St. Joseph in all the snow right now, but it’s the perfect time to launch registration plans for the St. Joe Baseball Association, in anticipation of getting back on the field this spring and summer.

Organization official Lars Petzke says, “We were unable to play a season last summer due to Covid, but we are planning on a season this year.” He adds, “It will be safe and we will be following state and local health department recommendations for safe play.”

The St. Joe Baseball Association league is for boys and girls aged from 4-to-14 years old. Their registration information is now making the rounds, and Petzke says, “We’re concerned about numbers since the kids didn’t get a chance last year, so we want to make sure families jump back on board this season.”

The league is operated completely by volunteers and exist season-to-season based solely on donations and league sponsorships. Their games are played at historic Wells Field on S. State Street in St. Joseph, next to the former Jefferson Elementary School building which was converted several years ago to the Jefferson Lofts condominium project.

Registration for the Spring/Summer 2021 session is open, and the league is partnering with the City of St. Joseph as they will assist in league administration.
