St. Joe’s Forte Coffee Company Expands to BH Arts District Site

When Brian Maynard first opened his Forte Coffee Company in January of 2019, he already had a growth plan in mind designed to advance into multiple locations. His business has performed very well, with a strong and loyal following for both his coffee and his brand. So, his plan continues with his second establishment coming to the Benton Harbor Arts District this spring.

Maynard says, “We have had numerous customers ask us to open in The Arts District as they are in that area during the day,” and adds, “We have also had a number of landlords approach us with space to lease.”

The result is a recent signing of a lease at 138 Water Street in downtown Benton Harbor. The space is directly between Water Street Glass Works and The Out Center, and was originally the home of Global Greening, and later was a gelato shop, a sweet shop and most recently an art gallery.

Maynard says that the new shop is a much smaller space than his flagship location at 2045 Niles Road near Verizon. As a result he says, “We will roast coffee, bake and make our food at Niles Road to sell at Water Street. So the space is perfect as a second location.”

Maynard says his team is excited to be a part of the growth in both the Arts District and the Benton Harbor community. His goal is to be open for business on Water Street in May of this year.
