A new community of rental homes is about to open and is taking applications in Benton Harbor.
Harbor Woods Townhomes is located on Enterprise Way near the Whirlpool Global Headquarters and features three-bedroom homes, complete with attached garages and high-end appliances. It was developed by Pearson Construction, which purchased the property from Cornerstone Alliance.
Cornerstone Alliance President Marla Schneider tells us the organization is always looking for ways to help develop new housing in the region, especially now that the results of its new housing study are coming in.
“One of our priorities, whether we own the property or not, is to identify land that is available and ready for construction for homes, apartments, single family units, and anything that would fill the gap that is needed and help to grow our population and have workforce housing available so that we can have people work here and live here,” Schneider said.
Schneider says the homes at Harbor Woods will be available at about 120% of the area median income, filling a gap in the region’s need for more housing. Initial move-ins will begin on January 1, and Schneider says more units will become available as the year goes on.
“Some of the units are done and finished and ready, ready for move in. And then they’re phasing in more townhomes. So they’ll continue to be under construction for the remaining of 2026, I believe.”
Schneider says Harbor Woods is a result of a partnership that began in 2019, representing the alignment of available land, private development, and community needs. Harbor Woods will also feature walking paths and pet-friendly amenities once all is finished in the coming year.
